Journey to Integrity
Embrace your role as a person of integrity and be the catalyst for ethical leadership and positive change in your community and beyond
"Wisdom is knowing the right path to take. Integrity is taking it." - Mahatma Gandhi
My Journey to Integrity started growing up as a child and teenager in the countryside between Ghent and Bruges (Belgium). I was seeing the world with wonder and excitement, life inviting me to explore freedom and explore the excitement of life.
Most families in our neighbourhood then were living a very conservative, organised and cautious life, as they had lived through the Second World War as children, and their parents through the first one. At the same time, the Western economies during the sixties were booming. The music I heard in the jukeboxes everywhere around was rebellious, stimulating and full of excitement. It was a constant invitation to explore and enjoy life and to break through the existing norms and dullness.
I’ve never lost that feeling.
However, through various travels and jobs, playing and working in music, organising and coordinating cultural events, opening a Cybertheatre, becoming a global voice in mobile technology, attending Singularity University and becoming a futurist speaker, something got lost along the way.
I lost the connection to self, who I really was and what I really loved to do. I was carrying the pain of being out of integrity. That feeling of being so connected in your life (thanks to technology), while feeling so disconnected from self and the people around you. The realisation that one actually creates more direct or indirect harm, to self, his environment and the world around him.
“When we are out of integrity, we might justify our actions and behaviour, and make all manner of excuses as to why this is acceptable. Yet deep down, there is a part inside us that knows our behaviour is wrong, and we therefore lose respect for ourselves. The more we lose respect for ourselves, the more out of integrity we become - it is therefore a vicious cycle. This is true for both men and women. For men, being out of integrity leads to a lack of self-respect, and that leads to a weakening of his masculine core.” - Lorin Krenn
A big part of this disconnection with self actually resulted in a severe aortic valve stenosis over time for which I had surgery earlier this summer. I feel blessed and I am grateful for this process allowing me to slow down and reflect, and come out in very good form, with an even more intense dedication in realising the vision, I started integrating into my life & work.
To be in integrity means to honour the sacred, to honour mother nature, to honour our heart, to honour our deepest truth. This is not just about others. It’s about the relationship with yourself, how you see and hold yourself.
An awakened man strives to be in the highest integrity both because he wants to serve the world fully, and because this is the only way of living that makes him feel at peace, to feel freedom, to be able to look at himself in the mirror with loving pride and admiration about the man he has become and the depth he embodies.
If this resonates with you as a man, I invite you to join Journey to Integrity. If you read this as a woman or as a different gender identity and know a man who could benefit from this, please share this post 🙏🏼
